Our major project for the final nine-week period of this school year will take place here, in the Wikispaces environment. While this is a group project - and I do encourage you to spend time discussing your project as a group - the real work can take place from your home computer, or in the media center, or anywhere you can access the internet. Wikispaces allows you to work as a group without actually being in the same room.
In a space just like this one, one dedicated to your group project, you will create what is essentially a website on your topic. The possibilities here are almost limitless - OK, maybe not limitless, but extremely broad. You will be able to add text, pictures, video clips, multiple pages, links to other sources, and much more. You should be limited only by the limits of your own creativity, and by the amount of time and energy that you dedicate to this project.
An important part of this project will be your actual use of, and exposure to, the technology that is available to us. Just as you and your group are using Wikispaces to collaborate on this project, workers around the world collaborate on the development of new products in an environment just like or similar to this. This is the world we live in. This is the world that you will be expected to operate in when you finish school and enter the workforce. I know that most of you are new to this kind of technology - most of us are. However, you will not be alone. I will be available to help you along the way. We'll spend some time in the media center as a class for an introduction to the project. I will also schedule time after-school to help those in need. But please remember, if you wait until the last minute to do this, success will be doubtful.
I really hope that you have a good time with this project. With the right attitude, you should find this to be an enjoyable and profitable experience.
